The dry-zone countryside around Dambulla is one of the most dramatic settings in Asia for a hot air balloon flight, lifting above an extraordinary landscape of ancient dagobas, reservoirs and scattered forest as the sun breaks over the horizon. Flights of 45 to 60 minutes reach several hundred metres with unobstructed panoramic views of Sigiriya Rock and the Cultural Triangle plains – complete silence, extraordinary light and landscape on a scale that genuinely rewards the early start.
