Day Tour 14: Ella Scenic Highlands Tour

A day in and around Ella – the most celebrated highland village in Sri Lanka – combining the famous Nine Arch Bridge, an accessible hike to Little Adam’s Peak, the dramatic Ella Gap view and the relaxed cafe culture of a small mountain town that refuses to hurry.

Key Highlights

Nine Arch Bridge

A colonial-era railway viaduct built entirely from stone and brick without a single steel rivet, most dramatically seen from below as a train crosses slowly overhead in a long, rumbling arc.

Little Adam's Peak

A manageable one-hour return hike through a working tea estate to a rounded summit with panoramic views over the Ella Gap, the valley floor and the surrounding ridges.

Ella Gap View

The dramatic southward valley opening where the hill country drops toward the coastal plains – a view extending 100 kilometres on a clear day from tea estate green to the distant ocean.

Ravana Falls

A broad and powerful waterfall on the descent into the Ella valley, associated in tradition with the legendary King Ravana and visible from the main road approaching the village.

Ella Village

A relaxed highland town with good cafes, independent guesthouses, a small Saturday market and a natural pace that is as much a part of the Ella experience as any formal site.
